LABOR DAY WEEKEND | BRADY, TX
“What’s this World Championship BBQ Goat Cook Off all about?” you ask.
Well, we’re not even sure how we goat here (get ready for endless goat puns), but we’ll do our best to explain.
It all started in 1974 when 16 cook teams got together to roast some goat in an effort to raise money for the Jaycees of McCulloch county. Yes, it was just your typical small town Texas cook off. We never could have imagined that it would become what it is today.
We now boast 206 cook teams with a 90+ team waiting list. Close to 10,000 attendees come from all over Texas and beyond. Over 5,700 pounds of goat are cooked each year in Richard’s Park on Labor Day Weekend. We know what you’re thinking, “You’ve GOAT to be kidding me.” Nope. We’re not kidding.
And, it gets even better. Not only is this the biggest and longest running cook off of its kind, but it’s also fun for the whole family. Yes, Billy, Nanny, & the kids (otherwise known as Dad, Mom, & the chitlins) can all enjoy a fun filled, activity packed weekend. With over 50 vendors, an arts & crafts fair, children’s games, a Goat Gallup fun run, a Horseshoe & Washer pitching tournament, and a street dance on both Friday & Saturday night, it’s totes ma goats good times for all ages!
